During a recent heat wave in the Bay Area in Northern California, temperatures
zoomed to well over 100 degrees. One evening a local news program shared
a feature story that brought with it a lesson on leadership and kindness.
The story captured the kind actions of the employees of an Indian restaurant in San Jose, California, as they "took the lead"
on the street offering cold drinks to people sweltering in their cars in
rush hour traffic. "In our country, we have these kind of heat wave
at least once a year. When they happen, people bring cold drinks to offer
to travelers on the streets," explained one of the employees.
Small acts of kindness build community and can be an inspiring example
to others. Imagine if this same level of thoughtfulness existed in your
organization---people consciously thinking of the well-being of others
in the organization. Think of the difference it could make.
